Collective artwork for Yarn Bombing Festival 2021

This year a special edition of the Yarn Bombing Festival will take place in Milan, in the famous Lambrate district. The event is organized by Yarn Bombing Trivento, Formidabile Lambrate Hub / Art and the Made in Lambrate association.
Daniela and Lucia of Yarn Bombing Trivento asked me to collaborate with them, creating the pattern to make a crocheted eye, which will be part of a collective artwork that will be exhibited during the “Yarn Bombing Festival 2021 Milan Edition”.

Fettuccine Alfredo

When I was a child, I loved watching my grandma while rolling pasta dough by hand. I still remember the sequence of movements she made, it looked like a dance. As a good Emilian, she often made homemade pasta and on holidays our table was always a culinary triumph made of fettuccine and cappelletti. The fettuccine were rigorously seasoned with ragu.
Some time ago, I learned of the existence of a very famous Italian dish: the “Fettuccine Alfredo”. I can’t hide I thought: “Fettuccine what?!?”.
I online looked for the recipe and found that the fettuccine Alfredo are simply seasoned with butter and Parmesan. Abroad it’s known as a typical dish of Italian cooking, although its name, taken from the restaurateur Alfredo Di Leia, is almost completely unknown to Italian people. Italians call it “Fettuccine burro e parmigiano”.
Since I love pasta seasoned with butter and Parmesan, and a few days ago I made homemade crochet fettucine, this photo is a homage to Alfredo, my granny and Italy.
*Special note*
To make the crocheted fettuccine, I used some cotton my sweet nana had pulled out from an old jumper long time ago, to recycle the yarn.

Quando ero bambina, amavo osservare mia nonna mentre faceva la sfoglia. Ricordo ancora la sequenza dei movimenti che faceva per impastare, sembrava quasi una danza. Da brava emiliana, preparava spesso la pasta fatta in casa e nei giorni di festa la tavola era sempre un trupidio di fettuccine e cappelletti. Le fettuccine erano rigorosamente condite con il ragù.
Qualche tempo fa, sono venuta a conoscenza dell’esistenza di un piatto italiano molto famoso: le “Fettuccine Alfredo”. Non nascondo di aver pensato: “Fettuccine che?!?”.
Cercando la ricetta online, ho scoperto che le fettuccine Alfredo sono semplicemente condite con burro e parmigiano. Sembra che all’estero siano un piatto simbolo dell’italianità, sebbene il nome, dato loro dal ristoratore Alfredo Di Leia, che le ha riscoperte nel 1908, sia praticamente sconosciuto a noi italiani, che lo chiamiamo “Fettuccine burro e parmigiano”.
Dato che amo la pasta in bianco e che qualche giorno fa ho realizzato fettucine fatte in casa all’uncinetto, ho voluto omaggiare Alfredo, mia nonna e l’italianità con questa foto.
*Curiosità*
Per realizzare le fettuccine, ho usato il cotone di un vecchio maglione che la mia dolce nonnina aveva sfilato moltissimo tempo fa, per riciclarne il filato.

Homemade crocheted Fettuccine recipe

During these lockdown days, many people are rediscovering the pleasure of cooking. Our social media walls are full of tempting photos of homemade food, sometimes with useful recipes attached too.
Since I don’t like cooking, but love eating and crocheting things, here is my simple recipe to make homemade crocheted fettuccine.
Pattern is very easy and fast, you just need some yellow cotton and a D size crochet hook.
*Lockdown Tip *
If you don’t have the yellow cotton at home to make egg fettuccine, you can use the green one to make the spinach version, or the red one for the tomato version, black for the squid ink and so on. Let your imagination run free!

In questi giorni di isolamento forzato, in molti stanno riscoprendo il piacere di cucinare. Le nostre bacheche social sono affollate da invitanti foto di pane, pizza, pasta e dolci fatti in casa. A volte anche con utili ricette annesse.
Dato che non amo cucinare, ma amo mangiare e fare cose all’uncinetto, ho realizzato queste fettuccine fatte in casa all’uncinetto, e lascio qui la mia semplice ricetta per riprodurle. Lo schema è molto facile e veloce, basterà avere un po’ di cotone giallo e un uncinetto di misura 3 mm.
*Consiglio Lockdown*
Se non avete in casa il colore giallo per fare le fettuccine all’uovo, potrete usare il verde per farle agli spinaci, rosso al pomodoro, nero al nero di seppia, e così via. Spazio alla fantasia!

Terminology: US American crochet
Ingredients:
2 ply yellow cotton yarn.
Tools:
D/11 (3.0 mm) crochet hook.
Tapestry needle.
Abbreviations:
ch = chain
hdc = half double crochet
Make 3:
151 ch, hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the remaining ch.
Fasten off, weave in ends.
Roll the fettuccine around your hand, shaping them to form a little nest.
Make as many as you want, depending on how hungry you are 🙂

Utensili:
Uncinetto 3 mm.

Avviare 151 cat, mma nella terza cat a partire dall’uncinetto e in tutte le restanti cat.

Arrotolare la fettuccina a nido.

Butterflies for SMA Families Onlus

I made these butterflies in collaboration with Yarn Bombing Trivento, for the Yarn Bombing Festival 2020, that will take place next August in the beautiful town of Trivento, Italy.
They will be part of a collective installation, which will be exhibited on the occasion of the YBF 2020. The proceeds from the sale of butterflies will be entirely donated to charity to the SMA Onlus Families association, whose symbol is a butterfly.
SMA is the acronym for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants. The SMA Onlus Families association takes care of the families of children affected by this terrible disease.
The more butterflies there are, the greater the proceeds from their sale will be.
Take part in the realization of this collective installation too!

Ho realizzato queste farfalle in collaborazione con Yarn Bombing Trivento, in vista dello Yarn Bombing Festival 2020, che si terrà il prossimo agosto nella splendida Trivento, in Molise.
Faranno parte di un’installazione collettiva, che verrà esposta in occasione dello YBF 2020. Il ricavato della vendita delle farfalle, verrà devoluto interamente in beneficenza all’associazione Famiglie SMA Onlus, il cui simbolo è proprio una farfalla.
SMA è l’acronimo di atrofia muscolare spinale, una malattia delle cellule nervose del midollo spinale, quelle da cui partono i segnali diretti ai muscoli. Colpisce i muscoli volontari usati per attività quotidiane quali andare carponi, camminare, controllare il collo e la testa, deglutire. L’associazione si occupa di sostenere le famiglie dei bambini affetti da questa terribile malattia.
Più le farfalle saranno numerose, maggiore potrà essere il ricavato della loro vendita.

Cucire il corpo al centro delle ali. Piegare a metà un piccolo pezzo di filo e cucirlo sull’estremità alta del corpo, per creare le antenne.

This is my representation of the Coronavirus, you can call it Mr Crown.
These are very strange days, but I’m strongly convinced that the measures the Italian government is taking are right and must be observed in every respect.
But WE ALL MUST collaborate.
WE ALL MUST make sacrifices and respect the rules that are imposed on us.
WE ALL MUST respect our neighbor and avoid spreading the infection.
WE ALL MUST be responsible and MUST work together to get out of this situation.
WE ALL MUST strive to overcome this unprecedented situation.
