I made these butterflies in collaboration with Yarn Bombing Trivento, for the Yarn Bombing Festival 2020, that will take place next August in the beautiful town of Trivento, Italy.

They will be part of a collective installation, which will be exhibited on the occasion of the YBF 2020. The proceeds from the sale of butterflies will be entirely donated to charity to the SMA Onlus Families association, whose symbol is a butterfly.

SMA is the acronym for spinal muscular atrophy, a disease Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a disease that robs people of physical strength by affecting the motor nerve cells in the spinal cord, taking away the ability to walk, eat, or breathe. It is the number one genetic cause of death for infants. The SMA Onlus Families association takes care of the families of children affected by this terrible disease.

The more butterflies there are, the greater the proceeds from their sale will be.

BUTTERFLY

Terminology: US American crochet

Materials:
Yarn of any type and thickness, in two colors as desired.
Crochet hook suitable for the type of chosen yarn.
Tapestry needle.

Special stitches:
Picot: ch3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook

Abbreviations:
mr = magic ring
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble crochet

WINGS

With color A
Rnd 1: mr, ch 3 (counts as 1st dc), 1 dc, *ch 1, 2 dc*, rep from * to * 5 times, turn [12].

Rnd 2: *5 dc in next ch 1 sp from prev rnd, 5 dc in next ch 1 sp from prev rnd*, 1 sc in next ch 1 sp from prev rnd, rep from * to *, sl st in 3rd ch from prev rnd, ch 1, turn.

Rnd 3: *dc in next st, 2 tr in next st, (tr, picot, tr) in next st, 2 tr in next st, dc in next st*, sl st in next sp from prev rnd, [dc in next st, 2 dc in next st, (dc, picot, dc) in next st, 2 dc in next st, dc in next st], sl st in next st, rep from [ to ], sl st in next sp from prev rnd, rep from * to *, sl st in next st. BODY

With color B
ch 8, skip 1 ch, sl st in each of next 7 ch, ch 3, 2 dc in last of ch 8, pull out the hook leaving the loop opened, insert hook in 3rd of ch 3 and then again in the loop (as in picture below), yarn over, draw up a loop. Fasten off, weave in ends.

FINISHING

Sew the body onto the center of the wings. Fold a small piece of thread in half and sew it on the high end of the body to create the antennae.

Your butterfly is ready to fly to Trivento!

8 cat, saltare 1 cat, 1 mbss in ognuna delle restanti 7 cat, 3 cat, 2 ma nell’ultima delle 8 cat, sfilare l’uncinetto lasciando l’ultima asola aperta, inserire l’uncinetto nella 3° delle 3 cat e poi di nuovo nell’asola (come in foto), fare 1 gettato, estrarre 1 m. Affrancare.

CONFEZIONE

Cucire il corpo al centro delle ali. Piegare a metà un piccolo pezzo di filo e cucirlo sull’estremità alta del corpo, per creare le antenne.
