Collective artwork for Yarn Bombing Festival 2021

This year a special edition of the Yarn Bombing Festival will take place in Milan, in the famous Lambrate district. The event is organized by Yarn Bombing Trivento, Formidabile Lambrate Hub / Art and the Made in Lambrate association.

Daniela and Lucia of Yarn Bombing Trivento asked me to collaborate with them, creating the pattern to make a crocheted eye, which will be part of a collective artwork that will be exhibited during the “Yarn Bombing Festival 2021 Milan Edition”.

If you want to participate in the realization of this artwork, follow my pattern you find below and send your work to the following address, by April 30, 2021:

Quest’anno avrà luogo a Milano un’edizione speciale dello Yarn Bombing Festival, nel famoso quartiere di Lambrate del Municipio 3. L’evento è organizzato da Yarn Bombing Trivento, Formidabile Lambrate Hub/Art e l’associazione Made in Lambrate.

Terminology: US American crochet

Materials:
Yarn of any type and thickness, in two colors as desired for the iris, plus white and black.
Crochet hook suitable for the type of chosen yarn.
Tapestry needle.

Abbreviations:
mr = magic ring
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
inc = increase
st = stitch
rep = repeat
prev = previous
rnd = round

PATTERN

With black
1° rnd: 6 sc in magic ring [6].
2° rnd: sc inc 6 times, sl st in 1st sc of round [12].
Join the 1st color you chose for the iris.

3° rnd: 1 sc, sc inc, rep from * to * 6 times [18].
4° rnd: 2 sc, sc inc, rep from * to * 6 times [24].
5° rnd: 3 sc, sc inc, rep from * to * 6 times [30].
6° rnd: 4 sc, sc inc, rep from * to * 6 times, sl st in 1st sc of round [36].
Join the 2nd color you chose for the iris.

7° rnd: 5 sc, sc inc, rep from * to * 6 times, sl st in 1st sc of round [42].
Join white.

13 sc, turn.
Skip 1st st, 11 sc, turn.

Now work the eyelashes as follows:
3 ch, skip 1st ch, 2 sc in the remaining two sts of the chain, sc in same starting sc to join to white again.
3 sc, 4 ch, skip 1st ch, 3 sc in the remaining sts of the chain, sc in same starting sc to join to white, rep from * to * 2 times.
3 sc, 5 ch, skip 1st ch, 4 sc in the remaining sts of the chain, sc in same starting sc to join to white, rep from * to * 2 times.
